Mr. John O. Devin lived 16 miles from Sacramento, and 3 miles from Elk Grove. He was born in 1823. He married Amanda M. Devin on April 23, 1846. They lived in Missouri until 1866 at which time he and his wife came to California. They settled in the county of Sacramento. He died on December 22, 1873. He was one of only two people buried in the Cemetery that has both a headstone and a foot stone.
After his death, his wife again married a William A. Jinkins, also buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery (spelled William A. Jinkins). At this time she had 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls. It is unknown how many of them were Jinkin's and how many of them were Devin's.
James H. Devin was born September 1850 in Missouri. He was probably the son of Amanda and John Devin. He died at the age of 42 and is buried alongside John O. Devin and Amanda Evans.
After William A. Jenkins died, Amanda was married to Mr. Evans. Her name was then Amanda M. Evans. She is also buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. It is unknown what her husbands first name was, but it might have been a Mr. A. J. Evans, who lived in the Brighton Township.
Mr. Devin's headstone was one of the twelve headstones that Mrs. Lawson's class raised money to have repaired.
