


Mary Bader was the wife of John Bader. It looks as though he died prior to the 1850 census . She had at least two sons, William Joseph and L. (Louis) C. , and a daughter Mary Bader Welty. According to the 1850 census, her birthplace was Switzerland, however she did live in Missouri prior to coming to California. She raised her family and took care of the farm on her own.
Mrs. Bader probably owed a lot of land. According to the 1850 census it's value was $2800. She had three men who helped her work the property. Their names were Dennis Doyle from Ireland, George Heskie from Germany and Daniel Hordick from Tennessee.
William Joseph Bader was married to Mattie M. Maholm. The Maholm family is also buried at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. William died at the age of 82 yrs. Mattie Maholm Bader was born in Sheldon and died at the age of 72 yrs, 6 months, and 15 days.
Louis C. Bader died at the age of 38 years. He was a native of Missouri. He was married to Elizabeth Colton (Bader). Their children were: Nevada, Clarence, Juanita, Bert and Ethel(Anderson). Elizabeth was the grandmother of Elizabeth Armstrong, William Bader, Thelma Bader. Elizabeth's brothers and sisters were: J.W. Colton of Martinez, Maurice Colton; Benjamin Colton and Amanda Colton (Wackman). She was a native of Illinois.
There is a street in the "Sheldon" area named after the family, Bader Road.
