Schoolhouse Traditions and Ways

A number of traditional school and family celebrations are observed at the Old Sacramento School Museum, including:

Fall

• Gold Rush Days: historical explorations and activities
• Halloween: trick-or-treating
• Annual Teachers' Institute and Field Day: celebration for Schoolhouse docents
• Early Educators Tour of the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery: life stories of real schoolmasters and schoolmarms who once lived in Sacramento

Winter

• Gingerbread Holida: gingerbread house decorating competition
• Valentine Day: make a special paper valentine

Spring

• St. Patrick's Day: crafts and activities
• Bonnet Promenade: create your own Easter bonnet
• Old Schoolhouse Essay Contest: annual writing competition for 4th graders

Summer

• School's out! Free family activities offered at the Schoolhouse throughout the summer

The Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum frequently has special exhibits in conjunction with holidays, observances and Old Sacramento events.
