Early Childhood Educators to Meet in Sacramento

SCOE Co-sponsoring 19th Annual Event

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is proud to co-sponsor the 19th Northern California Early Childhood Education (NCECE) Conference, scheduled for August 4-5, 2008, at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West.

David K. Dickinson, Ed.D. will be the keynote speaker for Monday, August 4. He is a professor at Vanderbilt University whose research and studies have focused on the role of language and literacy development for over 20 years. He has authored many books and articles on the subject and is often quoted as an expert in the field. Dr. Dickinson's interactive presentation will illustrate how it takes a whole team approach to enhance classroom support in order for children's language to blossom and grow.

Roberto Dansie, Ph.D., will serve as the keynote speaker on Tuesday, August 5. He is a dynamic speaker on cultural diversity. He considers each of his presentations to be like a Navajo sand painting, created for the specific healing of those who receive it! He is an author with a multidisciplinary team of friends that is presently working with orphaned and suffering children of Mexico.

The NCECE Committee is also announcing that a "Make It and Take It!" evening session is planned for Monday, August 4, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Staff has selected several hands-on projects which conference attendees may take home with them, along with a resource packet. This special session is offered to all conference attendees at no additional charge. Childcare providers, who are not able to attend the conference during the day, are invited to attend the evening session for a small fee of $10. One unit of college credit for attendance at this conference will be available through California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) for $55. Interested attendees must sign up and pay for the unit Monday morning, August 4, between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
