QEIA Technical Assistance and Planning Information Offered

School districts throughout California have an extraordinary opportunity to learn ways to help the lowest performing schools by making best use of the new funds that are available.

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) serves as the lead agency for the
Northern California QEIA Technical Assistance Center. QEIA, the Quality Education Investment Act of 2006, provides nearly $3 billion over a seven-year period, making funding available to select schools in the 2005 Academic Performance Index (API) deciles 1 and 2.

As one of the technical assistance centers, SCOE and its partners produced a Webcast which is now archived for playback in QuickTime 7 format or as a Windows Media stream.

The Webcast provides valuable information to districts and county offices regarding the planning and implementation of QEIA. The Webcast includes two segments: The first portion includes a review of the core requirements for standard programs as well as schools funded under the alternative option. The second portion focuses on considerations for thoughtful planning followed by tips about being careful consumers. The program concludes with a question and answer session which was recorded during the original broadcast.

The Webcast provides information about how to plan to be a QEIA school and district and explains how to combine other resources such as funding for high priority schools and Title 1 funds and develop comprehensive plans. Helpful tips are provided on how to be careful consumers with available funding.

With QEIA funds, schools and school districts can take steps to improve learning environments, steps such as reducing class sizes, hiring energetic new staff and counselors, and providing training for principals and teachers.
