Early Childhood Educators to Meet in Sacramento

SCOE Co-Sponsoring 18th Annual Event
The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is proud to co-sponsor the 18th Northern California Early Childhood Education (NCECE) Conference, scheduled for August 6-7, 2007, at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West.
Doug Clements, Ph.D., will be the keynote speaker for Monday, August 6. He is a professor in the Department of Learning and Instruction at the State University of New York in Buffalo, where he is the recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities. His keynote topic: "The Building Blocks of Early Mathematics."
Lesley Morrow, Ph.D., will serve as the keynote speaker on Tuesday, August 7. She is a professor of Literacy at Rutgers University. She served as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and principal before she began her research with early literacy development. Her keynote topic: "Best Practices in Early Literacy."
Other presentations include some of the following topics:
- Maximizing Children's Learning
- Music for Fun is Music for Learning
- Creative Inclusion
- Planting a Seed for Discovery
Spanish and Russian translation is available for selected workshops.
The NCECE Committee is also announcing that a "Make It and Take It!" evening session is planned for Monday, August 6, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Staff has selected several hands-on projects which conference attendees may take home with them, along with a resource packet. This special session is offered to all conference attendees at no additional charge. Childcare providers, who are not able to attend the conference during the day, are invited to attend the evening session for a small fee of $10. One unit of college credit for attendance at this conference will be available through California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) for $55. Interested attendees must sign up and pay for the unit Monday morning, August 6, between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
