December 2007 Employees of the Month

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 700 full-time and more than 2,500 part-time SCOE staff work year-round providing services which complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in the County of Sacramento. Over 230,000 K-12 students are served by public schools in Sacramento County.
December 2007 Classified Employee of the Month
Suzanne Fletcher, a database administrator, was nominated by OTAN Director Marian Thacher for her contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. Fletcher develops many of the online applications and reporting forms that SCOE's OTAN (Outreach and Technical Assistance Network) group creates and maintains for the California Department of Education. Ms. Fletcher communicates with the CDE Adult Education Office staff and creates online forms and spreadsheets according to their specifications. She is also an important contributor to the development and maintenance of OTAN's internal databases. She has created many data collection forms for SCOE, and continues to maintain and improve them. Ms. Fletcher is known for being dependable, thorough, knowledgeable and persistent. Her supervisor says, "If she can't solve a problem, she will keep working on it until she can, which is an indispensable quality for a database administrator." Ms. Fletcher's kind and thoughtful manner is valued by all. "I have never heard her say a negative word about anyone," reports her supervisor. "Suzanne is warm, welcoming and patient to all, and these qualities, combined with her computer knowledge, have made her our 'go-to' person for software problems." Ms. Fletcher has organized SCOE employee golf events, mentored SCOE students, served on the Employee Recognition Day planning committee, coordinated a TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group for employees, and supports other SCOE efforts in many ways. Ms. Fletcher has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since June 1994.
December 2007 Certificated Employee of the Month
Bruce Springborn, a nurse, was nominated by Special Programs Director Gary Scott Johnson for his contributions to the Infant Development Program of the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Springborn serves infants and toddlers in the northern portion of Sacramento County. As an integral member of a transdisciplinary team, he assists in assessing each student to determine the child's developmental levels, feeding patterns and physical and nutritional status. He is the team's liaison with medical providers, nursing and other community services. Mr. Springborn has a tremendous amount of knowledge and information regarding unique syndromes, health concerns and issues associated with disabilities. He works side-by-side with the parents of children in the Infant Development Program, assisting each family with the child's medical appointments and hospital stays. He follows families to the home after the child has been discharged from the hospital. Mr. Springborn supports families with any unique medical intervention required to maintain the child's health. As stated by his supervisor, "Bruce is a safety net for our families who have children with medical challenges. His presence gives families the extra care and support they need to assist their child." Mr. Springborn has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since October 2001.
