April 2007 Employees of the Month

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 700 full-time and more than 2,500 part-time SCOE staff work year-round providing services which complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in the County of Sacramento. Over 230,000 K-12 students are served by public schools in Sacramento County.
April 2007 Classified Employee of the Month
Darcie Magana, a School Secretary, was nominated by Principal Stephen Wright for her contributions to the Juvenile Court School program at Esperanza Junior/Senior High School, Bowling Day Reporting Center, and Morgan Assessment Center. Darcie is recognized for her natural ability to read situations and react in a positive and constructive manner. She embraces positive change, leads the way in developing programs and services that are best for kids, and displays extraordinary work habits. She handles the many daily crises that face a school secretary with a calm approach that puts all who are involved at ease. As stated by Principal Stephen Wright: "There is no way to put a value on what she does every day to make our three programs the best that they can be. Her dedication, work ethic, and compassion are a daily inspiration to all she comes in contact with." Ms. Magana has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since January 2001.
April 2007 Certificated Employee of the Month
Ginger Schlavin, a Teacher, was nominated by Principal Phil Romig for her contributions to the Sly Park Conservation and Environmental Education Center, a residential environmental education school, operated by the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ginger is recognized as a highly self-motivated teacher who continues to take on projects to help enhance the programs and services at Sly Park. Ginger has written two grants that are both pending, is currently working on an Eagle Scout project to help improve trails, and has displayed all state science standards in the Sly Park Science Lab. Ginger is also working with the U.S. Forest Service to help obtain funds through a project called Talk About Trees. As stated by Principal Phil Romig: "Ginger receives compliments weekly from visiting teachers, visiting parent chaperones, and visiting students regarding her professionalism and flexible teaching style, which is important to meet the variety of student needs. She truly makes a difference for thousands of kids each and every year." Ms. Schlavin has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since October 2005.
