February 2007 Employees of the Month

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 700 full-time and more than 2,500 part-time SCOE staff work year-round providing services which complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in the County of Sacramento. Over 230,000 K-12 students are served by public schools in Sacramento County.

February 2007 Classified Employee of the Month

Ivan Myrick, a Financial Analyst, was nominated by Financial Services Coordinator Becky Taylor for his contributions to the Financial Services Department of the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Myrick provides financial and budget support for a number of SCOE programs, including CNTS (Computer, Network & Telecommunications Support), OTAN (Outreach and Technical Assistance Network), CTAP (California Technology Assistance Project), ITLRC (Instructional Technology and Learning Resource Center), IMS (Internet and Media Services), AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) and Cal-SOAP (California Student Opportunity and Access Program). Mr. Myrick is highly regarded for his willingness to take on a multitude of tasks, big or small. His supervisor reports, "Ivan is extremely conscientious and can be counted on to perform his job accurately and completely." His peers describe him as 'dependable, always willing to help others—a team player, and very easy-going.'" Mr. Myrick's supervisor commends him for performing his duties, which entail complex record-keeping and reporting requirements, "with a great attitude and perseverance." Mr. Myrick has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since April 2004.

February 2007 Certificated Employee of the Month

Don Little, a teacher, was nominated by Principal Mike Borgaard for his contributions to the Juvenile Court Schools Program of the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Little works with at-risk students at SCOE's El Centro Jr.-Sr. High School campus located within the B.T. Collins Youth Center (Juvenile Hall). His students, to whom he provides math instruction and orientation placement, range from seventh to 12th grade. Mr. Little additionally serves as El Centro School's testing coordinator. His supervisor says, "Mr. Little is an excellent teacher. He has the ability to make mathematic concepts understandable to students having varying levels of understanding. Mr. Little has taken the lead at El Centro in the area of accountability testing, which is very labor-intensive and requires a great deal of work apart from his normal teaching duties. His classroom is very well-organized, and he employs a management style that promotes student success. Mr. Little is recognized as being consistent and fair with his students." One of Mr. Little's colleagues noted, "He cares about each student advancing—that's why he is so focused." Mr. Little has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since October 1997.
