September 2006 Employees of the Month

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 700 full-time and more than 2,500 part-time SCOE staff work year-round providing services which complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in the County of Sacramento. Over 230,000 K-12 students are served by public schools in Sacramento County.
September 2006 Classified Employee of the Month
Nancy Sartor, a Senior Financial Analyst, was nominated by District Fiscal Services Coordinator Debbie Honsa-Holden for her contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. Sartor is a valuable team member of SCOE's District Fiscal Services. She shares responsibility for reviewing school districts' annual budgets, interim budgets and financial reports, as well as compiling and distributing Principal Apportionment monies to the school districts. Ms. Sartor recently played a key role in the County of Sacramento's conversion to a different bank. Her supervisor says, "Ms. Sartor worked to make this a 'pain-free' transition for our districts." Another major accomplishment was the important role she played in developing greater connectivity with the Sacramento County Auditor's Office. This resulted in on-line access to county records and greater accountability, along with faster turnaround time for transactions. Her supervisor says, "I count on Nancy to be my 'go to' person when I need something researched or a question answered. I am pleased and honored to have her as part of our District Fiscal Services team." Ms. Sartor has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since September 1999.
September 2006 Classified Employee of the Month
Dan Powyszynski, a teacher, was nominated by Principal Joe Petterle for his contributions to the Juvenile Court Schools program of the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Powyszynski teaches students at SCOE's El Centro Junior-Senior High School campus located within the B.T. Collins Youth Center (Juvenile Hall) operated by the Sacramento County Probation Department. His supervisor says, "Mr. Powyszynski has done an outstanding job in the classroom, providing solid instruction and interacting effectively with students." In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Powyszynski serves as El Centro's Teacher in Charge. Says his supervisor, "Through the day-to-day trials and tribulations of processing students into El Centro classes, situating substitutes and providing the necessary texts and materials for teachers, Dan has always maintained a positive and upbeat attitude. Staff members are very comfortable going to him to request assistance or to make suggestions." His supervisor also cites Mr. Powyszynski's strong working relationships with Probation and lauds him for his organizational and leadership skills. "Mr. Powyszynski's skills over these many years, and recently as well, have been extremely valuable, greatly appreciated, and highly critical to the smooth operation of the facility." Mr. Powyszynski has been employed by SCOE since August 1992.
