June 2006 Employees of the Month

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 700 full-time and more than 2,500 part-time SCOE staff work year-round providing services which complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in the County of Sacramento. Over 230,000 K-12 students are served by public schools in Sacramento County.
June 2006 Classified Employee of the Month
Lindon Lewis, a Senior General Services Worker, has been nominated by Support Operations Coordinator Tom Adams for his contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Mr. Lewis works in the Support Operations Department headquartered at SCOE's Missile Way building. He is responsible for performing such duties as handling daily service requests, courier runs, mail delivery, and distribution of Board packets to Board members. His supervisor says, "Lindon has shown a real commitment to both the department of Support Operations and to the employees with whom he comes in contact on a daily basis. He is willing to go above and beyond." He commends Mr. Lewis for his dependability, commitment and time management skills. "Lindon's job requires him to think projects through and to come up with solutions that meet the needs of SCOE in many ways," his supervisor reports. "Lindon accepts these challenges willingly and completes them with great pride. His exceptional customer service skills and positive outlook add a great deal to the department as a whole." Mr. Lewis has been employed by SCOE since November 1975.
June 2006 Certificated Employee of the Month
Sandra Simmons, a teacher, has been nominated by Principal Carol Guardia for her contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. Simmons is a teacher at SCOE's El Centro Jr.-Sr. High School campus, located within the Sacramento County Probation Department's B.T. Collins Juvenile Center (also known as Juvenile Hall). As an El Centro teacher, Ms. Simmons has taught students in both self-contained units and rotational classes. In the past six years, she has been the site leader working with and developing a reading program at El Centro and has been instrumental in the development of the GED preparation program. She is currently serving as a "Teacher on Special Assignment" to lead the exploration and development of curriculum and program scheduling to meet the needs of students in the evolving programs within SCOE's Juvenile Court and Community Schools. Her supervisor says, "It is Sandy's outstanding dedication to her students and her professionalism that brings focus to her success." Ms. Simmons has been employed by SCOE since May 1997.
