The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices located throughout the state. Approximately 700 full-time and more than 2,500 part-time SCOE staff work year-round providing services which complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in the County of Sacramento. Over 230,000 K-12 students are served by public schools in Sacramento County.

May 2006 Classified Employee of the Month

Kristie McCarron, a program analyst, was nominated by Assessment Operations Director Amy Barr for her contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. McCarron works in C-SAPA, the Center for Student Assessment and Program Accountability, located in the David P. Meaney Education Center. She is responsible for maintenance of budgets, contract invoicing, and many other functions that support numerous C-SAPA projects. Her duties include preparing documents, developing and maintaining databases, materials inventory and shipping, coordinating test centers, and assisting with the entry and analysis of data for research projects. Among the projects that benefit from her support are the CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Examination), the Elk Grove Preschool Evaluation Project, and the Academic Decathlon. Her supervisor lauds Ms. McCarron as a "true 'learner,' willing to learn new computer software programs, take on new projects and to enjoy a variety of tasks. She is very creative in her work. Kristie is able to problem-solve, think of new ways to improve processes, and has creative publication design ideas for project layouts." Ms. McCarron serves SCOE in a number of ways, including as an active participant in planning and executing both the annual Employee Recognition Day and the Countywide Academic Decathlon Banquet, and as a member of the SCOE Classified Employees Association Executive Board and negotiations team. Ms. McCarron has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since December 1999.

May 2006 Certificated Employee of the Month

Alice Williams, a teacher, was nominated by Principal Linda Mitchell for her contributions to the Sacramento County Office of Education. Ms. Williams teaches business skills and careers classes in the Regional Occupational Program at SCOE's Leo A. Palmiter and Elinor Lincoln Hickey Jr.-Sr. High Schools. Her students, who range in age from high school to adults, receive instruction in Call Center Training, Computer and Business Technologies, and Virtual Enterprise/LINKS. The latter program is one she is helping develop and implement on a pilot basis with members of SCOE's LINKS team. Her supervisor says, "Alice is a solid, hard-working, expert educator who challenges students with the high expectations they will encounter in the business world. She weaves customer service skills, computer skills and employability skills throughout her programs, all important areas universal to success in any career path. She operates her classroom as a business environment, giving students real-world perspective on work and business. Her knowledge from a prior career as a small business owner has been a valuable contribution to students." Ms. Williams has served as Teacher in Charge of the ROP Business cluster for three years, working with SCOE teachers in numerous ways. She has facilitated groups at ROP inservices and has been a member of both the ROP Marketing Team and the ROP Budget Team. Ms. Williams has been employed by the Sacramento County Office of Education since August 1998.
