Special Rules for Chemistry, Mathematics, or Language Other than English
Chemistry: A grade of C or better in the second semester of chemistry validates a D in the first semester and fulfills a year of the laboratory science requirement. Note: This applies only to the California State University and does not apply to the University of California.
Mathematics: A grade of C or better in the second semester of a yearlong Algebra course validates a D or F in the first semester. A grade of C or better in Algebra 2 validates Algebra 1. D or F grades earned in Geometry or Algebra 2 can be cleared with grades of C or higher in trigonometry. A grade of C or better in trigonometry, pre-calculus or statistics validates the entire high school college preparatory requirement. For applicants to the University of California, a grade of C or better in statistics will only validate only Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, not geometry.
Language Other than English: A grade of C or better in a higher-level course validates a lower-level course. A higher-level course can validate the appropriate number of years based on the level. A college course can validate a high school course. The level of validation depends on the college course prerequisite and description.
