Advising Program Overview
A primary responsibility of the Sacramento Cal-SOAP Consortium is to increase awareness of the college options available to students, as well as the availability of financial aid. We fulfill this responsibility through a series of classroom workshops and small-group or individual conferences.
Each year project staff members, along with outreach staff from local colleges and universities, give classroom workshops to more than 5,000 high school juniors and seniors on such topics as:
- Why Go To College
- How To Choose a College
- Evaluating Yourself as a College Candidate (GPA, course requirements)
- Understanding College Entrance Tests
- Planning a Transfer
- Completing College Applications
- How to Secure Financial Aid
- Student Loan Education
In addition to classroom workshops, the Sacramento Cal-SOAP provides individual and small-group conferences to more than 400 high school students, offering personalized assistance with exploring college options, and completing college and financial aid applications.
