Literacy/Learning encompasses curricular ideas for integrating technology into the preschool classroom. There are links to children’s literature, symbolic communication strategies, creating games and books on the Internet, assistive technology adaptations for learning, curricular guides, and lesson plans.

The Western Illinois University Center provides a list of AT publications and curriculum guides for young children with disabilities.
- Creative Communicating
The Web site offers software and activity books to assist educators and families in designing emergent literacy technology activities for young children with disabilities. They are currently updating their Web site so you can download their catalog but nothing else.

The company provides a variety of games, songs, communication cards, print resources, classroom organizers, and information on special needs, preschool - elementary. The site includes free resources such as picture symbols and curricular ideas such as shape awareness activities and offers products for purchase such as visual schedules, software, books, laminated cards, learning software, teacher toolkits, and games.

The site includes a section of ebooks on children and adult fiction under a variety of categories.
- Early Connections: Technology in Early Childhood Education - Preschool
There is a section on Technology and the Curriculum under the Preschool section of the link. Additionally, there is a list of software suggestions and another section on Technology and Learning. The site provides suggestions for making adaptations to learning situations, activities and environments through the use of technology to encourage learning opportunities.

The Center for Best Practices in Early Childhood Education, Western Illinois University, standards-based curriculum infusing AT for young children. Web site contains a list of suggested software for young children and link sections for families and teachers on useful AT information. The Web site was last updated in May 2001.
- Schwab Foundation
The Web site provides a free guide to AT and LD with information on curricular areas and how to select AT tools. The Parent’s Guide to AT is available on this site.
- StoryPlace: The Children's Digital Library
This site was developed by a public library in Charlotte, NC. It includes a preschool library section with online stories. The thematic stories can be read by clicking on an arrow to turn each page. In addition to the story, there is an online activity where the child is directed verbally to complete the assignment such as sorting or identifying appropriate clothes for the activity. There is a take-home activity to download as well. The Web site would be a great in-class companion to a thematic unit (e.g., fire fighting, animals). The Web site takes a bit of time to download each story and activity which might pose a problem if students were working on the computer without assistance. The child would need to be comfortable with using the mouse. The site provides books and directions in English and Spanish formats.

The site has products for purchase and free items on creating books, games and activities for the computer. The free materials are for the Macintosh and the products for purchase have availability of both Mac and PC platforms.

The site provides general information about AT including no-cost and for-cost products and lists specific Internet resources and online activities for preschool and K.
- Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative (WATI)
Under the Birth to Three section of the Web site, there are six literacy kits available for downloading. AT for Hearing Impaired -- under the section on AT services, there is a fact sheet on technology for the Hearing Impaired.
