Sacramento County Crowns 2020 Poetry Out Loud Winner

C.K. McClatchy High School Student Wins Competition

Eden Getahun from C.K. McClatchy High School (Sacramento City USD), is the winner of the 2020 Sacramento County Poetry Out Loud recitation competition. She took first place in a field of 12 competitors during the Sacramento County Finals, held yesterday at Rosemont High School in Sacramento. She will now represent Sacramento County at the State Finals, March 15–16, in Sacramento.

Amorri Lee from John F. Kennedy High School (Sacramento City USD) is the Sacramento County runner-up.

Poetry Out Loud encourages high school students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. The program provides students with the opportunity to perform poetry in English classes. Modeled after the National Spelling Bee, students start by competing in their local schools. Winners then progress to regional and state competitions, with state winners competing at the national level. Poetry Out Loud was launched nationwide in 2006.
